After writing the newsletter What's the story behind this song? in which I promised to tell you how the songs on the Try Me album were written, today I'm starting this delicious adventure under the title Blue Dancefloor. Here we go:)
I'm trying to remember the trigger that led me to radically change my look. Black hair has always been my identity and I'm talking about more than six decades on the planet:) Until one day I woke up brunette and went to bed blonde.
Curiously, I can't pinpoint that magic moment, the insight that made me take the decision. When I think about it, for a while now I've been dating photos of Annie Lennox, I've been leafing through Vogue magazines looking for oxygenated heads, I've been thinking about the possibility of having my “Marilyn Monroe moment”:) Until it happened.
Cutting and bleaching was a shock in which I discover myself. Or did I rediscover myself ?
The change triggered other changes, such as abandoning certain colors. As a brunette, I looked incredible in red, it was dramatic and gave me a Japanese look. Blonde, on the other hand, no longer suits me. On the other hand, my well-loved black color, which dominates my closet, has taken on a stellar dimension.
On this trip from the darkness to the light, why not to try a pink hair? That's how I got to a tattooed girl with a fragile beauty who works in a hairdressing salon in Lisbon.
After choosing the shade that would look best, we started talking and she told me that, for the first time, she was dating a girl. From there, naturally, the conversation turned to gender, creatures, LGBTQIA+...
- It's going to take a while for the paint to set, it'll take almost an hour- she said.
- Okay,” I replied, ”can I please have my bag so I can get my notebook? I wanted to write some lyrics about everything we talked about.
- Really?- she asked, smiling.
And while my hair was silently changing color, I imagined that I was in an underground club and I saw a beautiful person near the bar; I couldn't tell if it was a girl or a boy and that didn't matter.
I closed my eyes and found myself on a blue dancefloor, falling in love and dancing with the beautiful creature all night long. The words came quickly, I think it was all written in my head. When I finished, I read the lyrics to the girl and she loved them, without hiding her surprise.
And that's how the song Pista Azul (Blue Dancefloor) from my album Try Me was created. Very far away from a night club, on a chair in a coiffure salon in Lisbon:)

A pista que me levou à Pista Azul
Ou me reencontrei?
